Cabins in Gatlinburg
There are so many of them, finding the perfect one is not an easy task. If you want a cabin for one of the busy weeks, like Christmas week, you need to start looking early. You should start looking in January and find the one you want by Feburary or March. If you don't, you may find those you like are unavailable. It's best to go to a web site that has a Gatlinburg forum where others will talk about what companies are good and which ones are not so good. They also talk about where some cabins are located. If you're going in December and you're not driving a 4 wheel drive vehicle, you will definitely need to know how the drive is to your cabin. The roads to the cabins can be gravel, one-lane, steep, and have hair pin curves with nothing at the side of the road except for a few trees! The best way to find out for sure is to call the particular company you're going to rent with and hope they tell you the truth! The most important thing to me is that the cabin is clean. Just about the only way you can know for sure about that is to book with a reputable company. Again, you can get recommendations on a forum. The size of the cabins are anywhere from a 1 bedroom to more than 8. Amenities in the cabins are great! Every one I've ever seen advertised has a hot tub. Most have a TV and private bathroom with every bedroom, plus TV in living room and rec room. Most have a pool table. Some have even more to do such as video games, arcade games, darts, air hockey, ping pong, movies, and internet connection. Most have fireplaces and grills. There's a trend now for some to have theaters in them with theater seating! Be sure to read the policies of each you are considering. Some only ask you to put a small fee of around $55 down, then pay the rest of the bill 30 days before you go. But others may ask you for the total cost at the time you reserve it. Some charge extra fees for cleaning and even may ask for a $200-$500 damage deposit. Make sure your cabin has enough bathrooms for your group. I've noticed there are some 4 bedroom cabins with 2 bathrooms. One like that would not be good for our group. I especially like the ones that have a half bath or even an extra full bath besides the ones in the bedrooms. That way, the kids who are sleeping on the futons or pull-outs have a place to go without disturbing the ones in the bedrooms. Some of the mountain views from the cabins are absolutely gorgeous. There are also many cabins with wooded views, with some of those having mountain views in winter when the leaves are off of the trees. And you can get cabins by the river. But you may still have to cimb a mountain to get to some of these. As far as the size of the cabins, I've found most of the rooms are smaller than they look on the web site. The photographers know how to take the pictures to make them look larger. A lot of them have a what I call a walk-thru kitchen. I like an open kitchen much better. You're more likely to want to cook and it gives you more room. There are many resorts in Gatlinburg. Some are even gated communities. There's always a main building with activities and a swimming pool for the guests. A cabin vacation is a lot of fun. It has all the comforts of home. I believe once you stay in a cabin, you won't want to go back to the same place and stay in a motel room! |
