Best Donuts
There's a little place in New Castle, Indiana that has the best donuts you'll find anywhere! This place is called Jack's Donuts. It's not on the "main drag" as the locals call it. In other words, it's not on State Road 3 where all the "fast food", motels, and most businesses are located. To find out where it is, just stop and ask anyone, and if they're from New Castle, they'll know. Anyone can tell you, even though it's actually located in a place most would call a "hole in the wall." They work all night making them so they will be fresh in the morning. They make them like donuts were made long ago. The are the best donuts you will ever find! They open bright and early (5 or 6 am), and some days even before 11 am (closing time) they're all gone! They distribute them other places throughout Henry County, but if you're looking for Jack's Donuts and it's afternoon....forget it! They're gone! This place was established 4 generations ago by Jack Marcum. Thank goodness Jack had a big family and there's been someone from each generation interested in keeping the business going! Those who work in the local factories or businesses will, at times, stop there on the way to work to get a couple dozen to take to co-workers on special occasions. I witnessed that many, many times when I worked at the local Chrysler Plant. I passed a place that distributed them on my way to work. Sometimes I'd stop in to get a couple for break. Many times I would pass them up since I couldn't always get some for my friends too. They have any kind you can think of. There's the popular yeast in plain & chocolate, jelly filled, creme filled, Chocolate iced (my favorite), chocolate with nuts, coconut iced, twists...both round and straight, and many, many others too numerous to mention. I'm sure you will find your favorite if you get there early enough! So, if you're ever passing through New Castle, In.(located near Interstate 70) early in the morning and you like donuts, make sure you try the famous (around here) donuts from Jack's! You won't be disappointed! |
